The perceived vibro-acoustic comfort, inside the passenger compartment, under driving conditions, is strictly related to car body torsional behavior. aim of this work was identify which parts a most influence first mode, in order modify them and acquire an increase such natural frequency. It also intended exploit great potential 3D printing that allows complexity component shapes, with acceptable compromise respect production costs. A design material (from steel aluminum) change rear part, identified as structural part relevant impact on frequency assessed terms performances. In particular, constraint increasing performances and, at same time, minimize weight structure itself, geometric, (e.g., type connections), changes were assessed. Working model dating back 2008, already compliant regulatory norms, 2 Hz mode Trimmed Body obtained. parallel, reduction optimized components gained. requested lower cabin sound pressure levels, optimizing transfer functions from accelerations engine mounts suspension attachment points inside. shown how combined use advanced topological optimization tools, capabilities unconventional manufacturing technology, aluminum, could guarantee vibro-acoustics performances, gaining reduction.
